Working under the Executive Director, the Community Engagement Manager advances the Conservancy’s mission to enhance Portland’s parks and recreational programs. Join our team and help the Conservancy reach new heights!
Responsibilities
Outreach and Communications
Coordinate Portland Parks Conservancy events, including new signature events, Third Thursday walks and other parks-based programming.
Promote and support community partners’ parks-based events and activities.
Curate and disseminate educational resources relating to Portland’s parks.
Grow the Conservancy’s reach via mail, email, social media, press, and events.
Manage the Conservancy’s social media pages.
Plan and draft regular e-newsletters.
Maintain the website with events, programming, and news about parks projects.
Capture and edit photos for current and future use.
Draft, distribute, and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories to local media.
Coordinate and staff the Community Engagement Committee and attend Board meetings.
Volunteer Coordination
Schedule, coordinate, and manage public park improvement projects for volunteers including neighborhood groups, park friends groups, workplace groups, schools, youth groups, etc.
Respond to volunteer inquiries and support relationship-building with organizations, businesses, and community groups.
Maintain a volunteer management database and reporting on volunteer statistics and accomplishments.
Draft volunteer engagement procedures, protocols, reports, and handbooks.
Organize and manage volunteer event photos and files.
Fundraising
Establish formal business sponsorship program to support Conservancy events, programs, and projects.
Assist the Executive Director in planning and implementing fundraising events and programs.
Assist the Executive Director as needed preparing the annual appeal and other fundraising materials.
Required Qualifications
A passion for the Conservancy’s mission
At least two years of experience in a comparable role
Ability to work well independently and collaboratively
Enthusiastic and positive attitude
High level of creativity
Event management experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational and project management skills
Experience with communications platforms and practices, including social, digital, and email marketing
Experience with graphic design a plus
Work experience with nonprofits with related missions a plus
Can attend occasional evening and weekend events
About the Portland Parks Conservancy
The Portland Parks Conservancy (PPC) is a private 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2018 with a mission to support parks and recreation projects and programs that are beyond the City’s capacity. Priority projects are guided by organizational values that include equity, access, inclusion, and collaboration. Our work brings the benefits of outdoor and recreational experiences to everyone in Portland, regardless of where they live or their economic circumstances. Current priorities include the Portland Youth Corps, a new outdoor community aquatics facility, Riverton Trolley Park, Portland Harbor Common, North Deering Park, urban forestry, and volunteerism.
Annual salary: $40,000-$50,000 for fulltime position
A part-time role could be considered for the right candidate.
Location: 212 Canco Rd in Portland + remote work (flexible)
Start Date: Ideally January but can be flexible
